817iPad – FT817/FT817ND/FT818ND iPad Audio Interface

Description

The only interface cable designed specifically to couple an Apple iPad/iPhone to the Yaesu FT-817/FT-817ND/FT-818ND radios.

May also work with other Yaesu radios with the circular 6 pin data connector on the back. Also works with Apple Macbooks (Pro and Air tested)

The interface provides:
– Isolated audio passthrough between the radio and the iPad
– Automatic keying of the radio via an integrated PTT/VOX circuit which triggers as soon as audio is present on the iPad, and releases the key approximately 1s after the audio finishes.
– Lightweight self-contained design
– Single connection to iPad and Radio – No messy cables
– Batteries not required – the interface gets it’s power from the mic bias voltage from the iPad

This allows you to work PSK31, RTTY, SSTV or any other mode that there is an app available in the app store.

This interface should, in theory, work with a number of other devices (android tablets, windows tablets, phones, laptops, etc) however it’s impossible to test all of these devices.

If you’re using a tablet or a laptop that is not an iPad, support will be offered but we cannot guarantee the device will work as expected. The information below is INFORMATION ONLY and we can only offer limited, best-effort support for getting this cable working with a device other than an iPad.

Any device with a 4 pin TRRS headphone/mic connector with the connection in the following configuration – should work:

T: Left Audio
R: Right Audio
R: Ground*
S: Mic*

*on some devices the “R/S” pins are swapped and the ground is on the “S” and the second “R” connector is the Mic bias. The device will still pass audio if these two pins are swapped on your device, however the interface will not key. We will be shortly releasing an adaptor that swaps these two pins that can be plugged on for use with these devices.
